Chibozu Community Trust is a registered charity, No: 1149318 with Charity Commission in the UK, a non-governmental, non political and not –for, profit making organisation. The charity raises funds for its operations in Zambia Pemba District- Simooya area in southern part of Zambia.

The trust strives towards poverty alleviation by assisting the remote rural communities through community development approach to service delivery that places community at the centre of the developmental process. Thus the charity believes that participatory development and empowerment of local community are a hallmark of all its grassroots based activities.

Vision

The vision of Chibozu Community Trust as an organisation is to empower the local community of Simooya and the surrounding areas to promote and improve the quality of life of the rural people and free them from the injustice of poverty.

Mission Statement

Chibozu Community Trust’s Mission Statement is “to improve the quality of life of the rural community”. It works purely in rural areas focusing its interventions on self-help community based development.

Chibozu Community Trust strives towards poverty alleviation by assisting the remote rural communities through community development approach to service delivery that places community at the centre of the development process, emphasizing community participation in all phases of project development and implementation.

Where We Work

The organisation was solely established to address developmental issues affecting the lives of the people in the 12 rural villages of Simooya and surrounding farms. It address education, economic, social, health, reconciliation, gender equity, culture and social services, and seeks to empower the people specifically women and children in the whole area of Simooya.

How We Got Here

Chibozu Community Trust started with a concern and an idea Milden and Catherine Choongo (a married couple) saw in the area of Simooya. The concern was how to counter the poverty, lack of education and health facilitates for the community of Simooya and surrounding. The idea was how to help the community to overcome poverty to make a difference in the lives of children, families and the whole community.

Our Policies

  • The Trust intends to adopt a structure of participative approach towards developing a long-term plan for identifying and deploying its resources to achieve its overall goals and objectives.
  • The Trust shall put in place a method of taking into account the input from appropriate community stakeholders, the Zambian government and other donors in its strategic planning.
  • The Trust shall be effective and flexible to adjust the implementation plans as a result of feedback from monitoring evaluation.

Community Contributions

The Simooya community contribution to the project activities undertaken in the area is in the form of unlimited labour toward all works at every project level, be it at brick making, collection of building materials such as building sand, water, land clearing including hiring local tradesmen.

Funding

The Trust is funded through donations, gifts or grants from individuals or organisations through charitable appeals.
