Improving Healthcare in Simooya
Chibozu Community Trust, while working together with the Ministry of Health in Zambia, is dedicated to improving access to basic healthcare in the Simooya area and the surrounding villages. Before the clinic was established, residents faced long journeys to reach the nearest health facility, putting expectant mothers, children and the elderly at particular risk.
The Simooya Village Clinic now provides a vital first point of contact for healthcare in the community, supported by local nursing staff working alongside government health services.
Maternity Project In Progress
The maternity building project at Simooya is envisaged to comprise a delivery suite and post-natal ward at Chibozu clinic. This will give mothers in the area a safe, hygienic place to give birth and recover, reducing the risks associated with home births in unhygienic settings.
Once complete, the maternity unit will significantly improve maternal and newborn health outcomes for families across Simooya and the surrounding villages.
Covid Hygiene Programme
Chibozu Community Trust carried out a soap distribution programme for the population of Simooya after a local clinical nurse delivered hygiene awareness training, helping to protect the community during the coronavirus pandemic.
Continued investment in electricity and water supply infrastructure for the clinic will further improve the quality and reliability of healthcare services available to the community.
