A School For Simooya
For many years the children of Simooya and the surrounding villages had no access to education. Children who did manage to enter school either travelled long distances to schools away from the area or relocated from their parents to go and live with relatives closer to a school, often at great emotional and financial cost to their families.
Chibozu Community Trust, together with the local community, set out to change this by building Simooya Community Primary School – giving children in the area the chance to learn close to home for the first time.
Construction Progress
Construction of the school has progressed in stages, including additional classroom blocks completed in August 2018. With the help of two local commercial farmers, the community also built two teacher's houses – a prerequisite for the Zambian government to assign and post teachers to the school. Without these houses, the school could not begin operating and could not open.
Teacher's housing construction continued through 2017 and 2018, helping the school attract and retain qualified teaching staff for the benefit of the whole community.
Sanitation and Connectivity
Chibozu Community Trust funded the building of waterborne toilets at the school, promoting good hygiene for both teachers and children.
A recently completed mobile telephone tower has also brought internet connectivity to the school and the village, opening up new opportunities for learning and communication.
Ongoing work to supply electricity and clean water to the school building remains a priority for the Trust, helping to create a safe and comfortable environment for pupils and staff alike.
